PAGASA declares start of rainy season

PAGASA officially declared the start of the rainy season on Wednesday, May 18.

The declaration was based on widespread rains brought by a frontal system and severe thunderstorms over areas with Type I climate, which includes distinct dry and wet seasons.

Intermittent rains associated with the southwest monsoon or habagat are expected to affect Metro Manila and western parts of Luzon and Visayas.

PAGASA noted that La Niña may still affect some regions, increasing the likelihood of above-normal rainfall conditions in coming months.

Weather forecaster Obet Badrina advised residents to expect rains mostly in the afternoon and evening.
