NCR's new daily COVID cases drop by 80%

The average number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased by about 80% from its peak in April.

As of May 26, the average daily infections dropped to around 1,099 cases, down significantly from a peak of 5,550 cases per day.

The positivity rate also declined to 10%, while the reproduction number decreased to 0.53, indicating reduced virus transmission.

OCTA Research group noted that NCR has improved from high-risk to moderate-risk status for COVID-19.

Healthcare utilization in NCR was at 42% and ICU occupancy stood at 57%. The goal is to further reduce daily cases to around 2,000 per day.
