DOH: 11 NCR cities show uptick in COVID-19 cases

The DOH reported on Friday that 11 cities in Metro Manila have shown an increase in COVID-19 cases, with a positive two-week case growth rate.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized the need to identify causes for this rise and strengthen border control as Delta variant cases are detected.

OCTA Research reported on Wednesday that NCR's reproduction number increased to 1.08, indicating sustained transmission with an average of 744 new daily cases from July 14-20.

The group noted a 11% increase in daily new cases in NCR from July 13-19 and warned about the potential for case spikes as high as 10,000 in coming weeks due to Delta variant entry.
