Philippines places Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro under strict lockdown

Local officials in Cagayan de Oro called on the Duterte administration to send more vaccines and health experts as the city prepared for enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), which was implemented due to confirmed Delta variant cases.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved placing Iloilo province, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro, and Gingoog City under ECQ until July 31 following recommendations from the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The quarantine status in Iloilo Province and Iloilo City was elevated to ECQ from MECQ 'immediately' until July 31 as cases surged, according to Malacañang.
