Nora Aunor dies at 71; state funeral set

Filipino entertainment legend Nora Aunor died on Wednesday, April 16, at the age of 71 and will receive a state funeral with final honors through an interment ceremony at Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City on Tuesday, April 22.

Lotlot De Leon, Nora's daughter, shared details about the wake on Instagram, confirming that family viewing began at The Chapels at Heritage Park from midnight until 2 p.m. with a mass scheduled for 8 p.m.

Public viewings started on Friday, April 18, and continued through Easter Saturday (April 20) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by private viewing until midnight with nightly masses at 7 p.m.

On the first day of public viewing on Saturday, hundreds of Nora's loyal fans braved intense heat to pay their respects, lining up for hours and bringing memorabilia.

Fans continued to arrive throughout the day, singing along to Aunor’s signature songs as her impersonator also performed 'Bagong Bayani,' with honor guards standing watch at her coffin pursuant to National Commission for Culture and the Arts protocol.
