OCTA: NCR reproduction number up to 1.38; DOH disputes claim

The reproduction number of coronavirus in Metro Manila has increased to 1.38, indicating sustained transmission.

OCTA Research reported that the capital region averaged 1,096 new daily cases during July 23-29, a 28% increase from its average of 854 cases during July 16-22.

Professor Guido David warned that Metro Manila could see up to 2,000 new cases per day by next week if current trends continue, stressing the need for stricter measures to prevent overwhelming healthcare capacities.

The DOH refuted OCTA's claims of a surge, stating there is no definitive evidence and noting only a moderate risk with an average daily attack rate of 6 cases per 100,000 people.
