Pangilinan doubles Yulo's prize to P10M, adds P2M each for Petecio, Villegas

Sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan announced on Thursday that he will award Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo with a P10 million cash prize, doubling his initial pledge.

In addition to Yulo's reward, Pangilinan also pledged P2 million each for bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, bringing their total rewards to P4.5 million each from various sources.

The MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF) assured continued support for Philippine athletes in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after handing a total of PHP21 million to Yulo's team and Petecio and Villegas' coaching staff.

Yulo received P10 million personally from Pangilinan, while each boxer’s coaching staff received P1 million.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also doubled the cash rewards for Yulo, Petecio, and Villegas, adding a total of P30 million to their winnings.

With these awards, the Philippines posted its best showing in the Olympic Games since joining 100 years ago, with four medals won by Filipino athletes.
