Senate honors Filipino athletes with P5M incentives

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, along with ten other Filipino athletes, received medals of excellence and cash incentives totaling P5 million from the Philippine Senate on Monday.

Yulo was awarded P3 million in cash incentives, while Villegas and Petecio each received P1 million.

The Senate adopted resolutions conferring Senate Medals of Excellence on Yulo for his gold medals in men's floor exercise and vault events, Villegas for her bronze medal in women's boxing (50 kg), and Petecio for her bronze medal in women's boxing (57 kg).

Senate President Francis Escudero highlighted the significance of this year’s Olympic performance as it marks a century since Filipino athletes first participated in the Games.

The Senate also congratulated Team Philippines, the Philippine Olympic Committee, and the Philippine Sports Commission for their historic achievements at the 2024 Summer Olympics held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France.
