Libanan reelected House minority leader with unanimous support

Marcelino 'Nonoy' Libanan was reelected as House minority leader on Monday, July 28, during the opening of the 20th Congress.

Libanan received unanimous support from all 29 other minority members and was nominated by ML Representative Leila de Lima.

On Wednesday, July 30, the minority bloc also appointed its senior deputy minority leader, deputy minority leaders, and assistant minority leaders during a plenary session.

Among those backing Libanan were opposition lawmakers such as De Lima, Chel Diokno, Perci Cendaña, Dadah Kiram Ismula, Antonio Tinio, and Renee Co.

Libanan's reelection was not surprising given the early support from more than two dozen lawmakers weeks before the new Congress session.

Speaker Martin Romualdez and Libanan are allies from Eastern Visayas, with Libanan previously serving as vice governor and congressman of Eastern Samar.
