Villegas wins bronze, Philippines' third medal at Paris Olympics

Aira Villegas won a bronze medal in the women's boxing 50kg event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday, securing the Philippines' third Olympic medal and becoming the second female Filipino boxer to win an Olympic medal after Nesthy Petecio.

Villegas was officially awarded her medal on Saturday at Roland-Garros Stadium in a ceremony following the final bout where she shared bronze with Kazakhstan's Nazym Kyzaibay.

As mandated by Republic Act 10699, Villegas is expected to receive P2 million from the government for her achievement.

Carlos Yulo's recent double gold medal performance preceded Villegas' accomplishment in the ongoing Summer Games.

Villegas expressed her intent to compete again in the Olympics in 2028 to achieve her dream of hearing the national anthem of the Philippines played.
