Marcos Jr directs objective review of flood control projects

President Bongbong Marcos Jr. has directed an objective review of flood control projects following his fourth State of the Nation Address.

Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) assured that this will not be a witch hunt but rather an effort to prioritize and examine project lists provided by DPWH.

While awaiting the list from DPWH, DEPDev is crafting review protocols to ensure objectivity and regional development groups are discussing these protocols.

The President instructed the Regional Project Monitoring Committee to assess projects that have failed or remain unfinished, as well as those alleged to be ghost projects.

This directive comes in response to public criticism of government flood control projects which were blamed for recent massive flooding in Luzon.

CenPEG urged the establishment of a public audit committee composed of civil society groups, anti-corruption watchdogs, engineers, and community leaders to help scrutinize these projects.
