Marcos: Gov't ready to aid Mindoro oil spill victims

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. stated on Friday that the government is prepared to assist families affected by an oil spill in Oriental Mindoro caused by the sinking of the MT Princess Empress.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will lead assistance distribution, with special attention given to fisherfolks losing their livelihoods.

The DENR, along with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), are ready to support local government units in assessing needs.

Private corporations like Petron and Shell have offered equipment to address the spill's impact.

More than 2,000 hectares of coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass could be affected by the oil spill.
