PCG conducts cleanup in Oriental Mindoro after oil spill

On Friday, March 10, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted a simultaneous cleanup operation in Oriental Mindoro affected by an oil spill from a sunken motor tanker.

The PCG spokesperson said the cleanup started that morning and would end on the same day due to health hazards and limited time allowed by DOH.

Since Wednesday, March 8, the PCG has been installing oil booms and conducting containment operations in Naujan town, with residents and volunteers collecting oiled debris and sea grasses.

On Tuesday, March 7, the PCG appealed for help to address the massive spill threatening local livelihoods and health, emphasizing their limited resources and prioritizing dispersal and recovery at sea.
