Marcos declares Canlaon City under state of calamity after Kanlaon Volcano eruption

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. assured on Tuesday that the government is prepared to assist those affected by Monday evening's explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

Marcos emphasized that PHIVOLCS, NDRRMC, and DSWD are closely monitoring the situation and providing support, with Alert Level 2 raised for safety reasons.

Approximately 170 families or nearly 800 individuals have been impacted by the volcano's activity, and sleeping kits and food packs have already been distributed in La Castellana.

Some 13,000 family food packs are prepositioned in Negros Island with an additional 40,000 food packs and non-food items en route to support affected residents; air assets are on standby for rapid response.

Marcos urged residents near the danger zone to remain vigilant and avoid staying within a four-kilometer radius, while Canlaon City was declared under a state of calamity following the eruption.
