PCG on high alert for Mount Kanlaon eruption

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is on high alert to assist local government units and other agencies following Mount Kanlaon's eruption on Monday evening.

Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, PCG spokesperson, stated that Western Visayas District has prepared deployable response groups and rescue assets for immediate dispatch at the command of Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan.

Vessels and aerial assets from Manila are also on standby to provide additional support if needed.

The eruption has displaced 1,562 individuals or 210 families across 84 barangays in more than 10 cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental as of Tuesday.

Quick response teams from other PCG districts in Visayas and Mindanao have been mobilized to aid ongoing operations, and the PCG Auxiliary is preparing for humanitarian missions.
