Duterte declares Taal Volcano off-limits

President Duterte declared Taal Volcano island off-limits following experts' advice that a hazardous eruption could occur within days.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed the order and said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año would be responsible for its implementation, including relocating around 4,000 residents on the island.

Lorenzana had previously urged Duterte to declare Taal 'no man’s land' during a situation briefing in Batangas City on January 14.
