Taal Volcano spews ash, alert raised to hazardous level

On January 12, Taal Volcano in Batangas began spewing ash, raising the alert level to 4 and causing ashfall across Calabarzon and parts of Metro Manila.

While some ash reached Metro Manila, UP IESM professor Dr. Gerry Bagtasa noted that air quality remained low to moderate with much of the plume not descending to ground level.

Photos showed houses, trees, cars, and roads covered in ash in Cavite and other affected areas on January 13.
