Taal Volcano damage exceeds P3B, fisheries hardest hit

As of January 19, 2020, the agricultural damage caused by Taal Volcano's eruption exceeded P3 billion, with fisheries accounting for over half of the total damage.

The Department of Agriculture reported that ashfall damaged 43,772 metric tons of crops and affected more than 15,790 hectares of land in CALABARZON.

Fisheries were particularly hard hit, with P1.6 billion worth of damage to 6,000 fish cages in Batangas municipalities like Talisay, Laurel, Agoncillo, and San Nicolas.

The eruption on January 12 led to the death of over 55,881 farm animals due to ashfall and other environmental impacts.
