UP men's basketball team beats UST, extends winning streak to eight games

The University of the Philippines men's basketball team extended their winning streak against University of Santo Tomas to eight games with an 83-73 victory in a UAAP Season 87 match on Sunday evening at the Araneta Coliseum.

Francis Lopez led UP with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Terrence Fortea contributed 16 crucial second-half points to secure the victory for the Maroons.

UP coach Goldwin Monteverde highlighted improved rebounding and teamwork as key factors in the comeback, noting that UP outrebounded UST by a margin of 43-35.

Despite their previous loss against defending champions De La Salle University (La Salle), UP's victory over UST improved their record to 7-1 for the season and tied them with La Salle at the top of the standings, only to be defeated in their rematch by La Salle.

UST remains on track for a Final Four spot but now holds a 4-4 record after losing to UP, while La Salle secured a win against University of the East to solidify their position as co-leaders with UP.
