Jia Morado-De Guzman named Alas Pilipinas captain for AVC Challenge Cup

Jia Morado-De Guzman has been named captain of the Alas Pilipinas national women's volleyball team for the AVC Challenge Cup for Women.

Despite initial feelings of being overwhelmed by the responsibility, De Guzman expressed confidence in her leadership role and noted that she will draw from past experiences with senior teammates to guide a youthful squad.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation announced on Saturday that De Guzman, a former Ateneo and Creamline Cool Smashers star setter who recently played in Japan, will lead the team featuring young stars like Eya Laure, Angel Canino, Thea Gagate, and Julia Coronel.

De Guzman highlighted the simplicity and efficiency of Japanese volleyball, which she aims to incorporate into her leadership style for Alas Pilipinas, and has been exchanging insights with Coronel to maximize their short preparation time.

The national team's campaign begins on Thursday against Australia at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Vito Cruz, Manila. With little time to prepare, the team is focusing on clear communication during training sessions.
