ECQ prevented up to 8.3M COVID-19 infections

An estimated 8.3 million Filipinos would have contracted COVID-19 without the implementation of an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

Nograles cited four expert groups who warned that millions could be infected if ECQ measures were not put in place, with estimates ranging from 1.9 million to 8.3 million potential cases.

The ECQ has prevented the country from reaching a worst-case scenario where up to eight million Filipinos might have been infected.
