Lawmakers urge extension of tax filing deadline amid lockdown

Lawmakers are urging the Department of Finance and Bureau of Internal Revenue to extend the April 15 tax filing deadline due to the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon and other parts of the country.

House ways and means chair Representative Joey Salceda called it 'heartless' for the BIR to stick to the original deadline while President Duterte has placed Luzon under lockdown.

Kabayan party-list Representative Ron Salo urged the BIR to extend the filing and payment deadline by at least a month, from April 14 to May 15.

Salceda also suggested waiving penalties for late tax filings as an 'administrative relief' measure during the quarantine.
