Ginebra beats San Miguel 73-71, San Miguel wins 100-83

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel secured a 73-71 victory over top-seeded San Miguel Beermen in Game 1 of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena, but San Miguel evened the series with a 100-83 win in Game 2 on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Ginebra staged an impressive comeback from an 18-point deficit in Game 1, led by Scottie Thompson's 16 points and eight rebounds and Japeth Aguilar's near double-double with 18 markers and nine boards.

In Game 2, San Miguel overcame a not-so-100 percent June Mar Fajardo, who only put up two points due to an incurred calf injury, led by Marcio Lassiter with 16 points powered by four treys.

Ginebra's head coach Tim Cone praised his team's Herculean effort in Game 1 but acknowledged that they struggled offensively and defensively against San Miguel’s strong second-half performance.

San Miguel will look to take a 2-1 series lead on Sunday, June 29, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
