Gilas loses twice to Lebanon, plagued by turnovers

Gilas Pilipinas suffered a 21-point loss to Lebanon, 75-54, in the second game of the Doha International Cup on Saturday.

The Philippines struggled especially in the fourth quarter, scoring only six points while Lebanon outscored them with an 11-2 run, turning a close contest into a decisive victory; however, in the rematch early Sunday morning, Gilas faltered further, managing just six points in the final period as Lebanon pulled away.

Leading Lebanon were Gerard Hadidian and Jad Khalil who both scored 18 points; additionally, Gilas committed 19 turnovers which Lebanon capitalized on for 26 points.

Justin Brownlee had a double-double for Gilas with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the rematch as well, while Calvin Oftana added 10 points.

Gilas will face Egypt in an early Monday game at 1:30 am Manila time, with a chance to secure a spot in the championship if they win and Lebanon loses to Qatar.
