Philippine boxers advance in Paris Olympics

Philippine boxers Hergie Bacyadan, Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas received their brackets for the Paris Olympics boxing competition on Thursday, July 25.

Bacyadan faced top-seeded Li Qian of China in her Olympic debut on Wednesday, July 31, but lost to her opponent.

Marcial earned a first-round bye and will face Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev in the round of 16 on July 31.

Paalam defeated Ireland's Jude Gallagher via unanimous decision in his round of 16 match on July 31, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Villegas won her round of 32 bout against Morocco's Yasmine Mouttaki and advanced to the round of 16 where she faced Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualam and secured another win.

Petecio defeated India's Jaismine Lamboria in the round of 32 on July 30, advancing her to the next stage of competition.
