FEU-D wins UAAP Season 87 high school chess boys' and girls' titles

Far Eastern University-Diliman capped off its championship campaign in the UAAP Season 87 high school chess tournament, securing titles in both the boys' and girls' divisions with eight wins for the boys' team and seven wins and one draw for the girls' team.

In the boys' division, FEU-D's Oscar Cantela, who also earned a gold medal on Board 1, led an undefeated quintet of players to clinch the championship early in Round 8.

The girls' team similarly dominated with five members contributing key wins, including Ruelle Canino and April Joy Carlos who secured MVP awards and gold medals respectively.

Adamson University's Ma. Christina Samarita and UST's Alleana Gonzales also took home gold medals on Board 5 and 6, while FEU-D's Franiel Magpily won the silver medal.

UST clinched second place in both divisions with strong performances from players like Tyrhone Tabernilla who secured a silver medal behind Cantela, and Daren Dela Cruz who helped UST secure second overall.
