Duterte declares state of calamity over Odette-hit regions

President Duterte declared a state of calamity in regions hit by Typhoon Odette on Tuesday.

The affected areas include Regions 4B, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 13.

Albay Representative Joey Salceda urged the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to recommend a state of calamity declaration for Visayas and Mindanao devastated by Odette.

Salceda said this would activate measures such as price controls, reprogramming funds for infrastructure repair, and granting no-interest loans under RA 10121.

A state of calamity also activates an automatic price freeze on basic necessities in affected areas under the Price Act.
