Duterte calls for death penalty revival for drug crimes

President Rodrigo Duterte renewed his call during his fifth State of the Nation Address for Congress to reinstate the death penalty by lethal injection for drug-related crimes under the 2002 Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Duterte noted that lawmakers did not give a loud applause in response to his proposal, prompting him and his allies to clap louder.

The President emphasized that this bill will help deter criminality and protect children from illegal drugs.
