Sotto: Death penalty unlikely unless limited to high-level drug traffickers

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday said senators are unlikely to pass a measure to reinstate the death penalty during the current session of Congress unless it is limited to high-level drug traffickers.

Sotto, who supported the death penalty in the early 1990s, now sees the point of those opposing it due to the risk of executing the wrong suspect.

Senator Imee Marcos also expressed support for reinstating the death penalty, citing vast syndicates involved in drugs and terrorism.
