Opposition slams Duterte for death penalty push, lack of COVID-19 plan

Opposition lawmakers criticized President Duterte for pushing to reinstate the death penalty and failing to present a clear plan to address the COVID-19 pandemic in his SONA.

Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Zarate noted that Duterte's focus on drugs and criminality was a 'default mode' to divert attention from the administration's incompetence in handling the crisis.

Zarate highlighted that despite over 2,000 new infections today, Duterte only mentioned plans for 1.4 million tests by the end of July.
