Bato urges Senate to debate death penalty for drugs

Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa secured a seat in the Senate committee on justice and human rights on Wednesday, July 29.

Dela Rosa urged his fellow senators to deliberate on reinstating the death penalty for illegal drug offenses, citing billions of pesos worth of drugs being smuggled into the Philippines.

He credited the arrests of drug traffickers to the PNP and PDEA's intelligence work and coordination with other agencies.

In a separate statement, Dela Rosa said Oplan Tokhang is 'very effective' but the drug trade will continue without the death penalty.

Dela Rosa noted that even those in jail continue their drug business.
