Metro Manila traffic expected this weekend due to tunnel boring machines

Traffic congestion is anticipated this weekend (March 15 to March 17, 2024) in Metro Manila due to the transport of tunnel boring machines for the Metro Manila Subway Project.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that these machines will be moved from Port Area in Manila to Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, affecting several roads during specific time slots from March 15 to March 16 and March 16 to March 17.

Motorists can expect delays on roads including Port/R-10 from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., C3 Road from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and additional stretches like 5th Avenue, G. Araneta Avenue, E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Gilmore Avenue, and Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue through the early morning hours.

The tunnel boring machines will be used in constructing tunnels between the Camp Aguinaldo Station and Ortigas Station, with travel disruptions continuing until 4 a.m. on March 17.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during these times to avoid delays.

DOTr also reported that the subway project is currently 40 percent complete for its first contract package and aims to have the 33-kilometer rail line operational by 2029, but right-of-way problems continue to hamper progress.
