DOTr confident of completing P488B Metro Manila Subway by 2029

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) remains confident that it will complete the P488-billion Metro Manila Subway Project by 2029 despite ongoing challenges with right-of-way acquisition.

During a press conference on Thursday, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista stated that negotiations are still underway to secure the remaining three contract packages—CPs 105, 108, and 109—to avoid additional costs due to delays.

Bautista emphasized the importance of securing right-of-way for these critical segments, which include Kalayaan Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Lawton, Senate-DepEd, and Terminal 3 stations.

DOTr Undersecretary Jeremy Regino assured that negotiations with property owners are progressing, and if resolved promptly, operations could begin by 2029.

The DOTr has completed about 55 percent of right-of-way acquisitions and is at 11 percent in construction completion, with drilling for the North Avenue station already underway under Contract Package 101.
