Justice Sec Remulla says BI should take custody of Mayor Guo after resolving cases

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) should take custody of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo once all pending cases against her have been resolved.

Remulla emphasized that an immigration case against Guo, who is also a Chinese national named Guo Hua Ping, takes precedence over other legal actions and is non-bailable.

He clarified in a briefing on Wednesday that the BI will take custody of Ms. Guo after securing court permission.

Among her offenses include using fake passports and falsifying her nationality, as well as alleged links with illegal gaming operations.

Guo's cases also involve representing herself as a Filipino citizen to obtain her Philippine passport, and a case for qualified trafficking against her is up for resolution by prosecutors.

A Tarlac court has issued a commitment order for Guo's detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center, while senators argue she should be detained at the Senate due to their initial arrest order.

Remulla reiterated that they have brought the matter to the Office of the Ombudsman and may seek guidance from the anti-graft body regarding jurisdictional confusion.
