DOH studies budget for 2022 vax program, potential boosters

The DOH is currently studying the budget for next year's vaccination program, including catch-up vaccinations and potential booster shots.

As of now, the DOH does not recommend a third dose or booster shots as most Filipinos have yet to receive their initial doses.

Studies are underway to assess the real-world effectiveness and safety of booster shots, considering factors such as duration of immunity, impact on variants, feasibility of implementation, and funding requirements.

The government has allocated P45 billion in the proposed 2022 budget for potential booster shots, contingent upon raising sufficient funds.

Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje stated that while the DOH is considering including booster shots in the 2022 budget, a final recommendation from experts will be available within the next month or two.
