Dizon calls for EDSA bus carousel improvements

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon called for immediate improvements to the EDSA bus carousel system on Tuesday, emphasizing clear wayfinding signs, fixing faulty timers and elevators, and implementing stricter dispatch systems.

During an inspection from Ortigas to Monumento, Dizon noted issues such as inconvenient rail stops, broken elevators, and the need for separate concourses for passengers of the EDSA Busway and MRT-3.

The DOTr plans to construct dedicated bridgeways or concourses at all 23 stations using existing footbridges at SM Megamall and SM North Edsa as models, with a target completion period of 10 to 14 months starting from May's bidding process. The DoTr will also use these model stations donated by the SM Group.

Sweden has awarded a PHP16 million grant to the DOTr for continued feasibility studies on the EDSA Busway system and the privatization is now expected to take place in 2026 after initial upgrades are completed.

The operations and maintenance of the EDSA Busway will be privatized as part of long-term plans, with initial feasibility studies expected to be completed within a few months.
