Dela Vega leads PGJC-Navy to crucial victory over D'Navigators

Joeven Dela Vega led PGJC-Navy to a crucial five-set victory over D'Navigators Iloilo on Sunday night, securing Navy's place in the semifinals of the 2024 Spikers' Turf Open Conference with a 6-2 record.

Dela Vega's eight points in the decisive fifth set were instrumental, contributing to his overall tally of 19 points, including 16 attacks, two aces, and one block, earning him the Player of the Week citation from the Spikers' Turf Press Corps for April 24 to 28.

Navy head coach George Pascua credited their success to proper execution and preparation during training, which translated well into their game plan.

Francis Saura led D'Navigators with an impressive 30-point performance but could not secure the victory for his team as they finished in fourth place with a 5-3 record.

Dela Vega emphasized the importance of this win in boosting Navy's morale heading into the semifinals, where they will face D'Navigators again on May 5 and then take on defending champions Cignal HD Spikers starting Wednesday, May 1.
