Hontiveros: China owes P200B for West Philippine Sea damage

Senator Risa Hontiveros says China owes the Philippine government at least P200 billion for environmental damage in the West Philippine Sea, which should be used towards the country's COVID-19 response.

Hontiveros cited a University of the Philippines-Marine Science Institute study that estimates annual losses due to China’s land reclamation and illegal fishing activities at P33.1 billion.

She argues that these damages have been ongoing for over six years, making the total loss exceed P200 billion.
