29 health workers die from COVID-19; 1,336 infected

As of Tuesday, April 28, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that 29 health workers have died from COVID-19, with 22 being doctors.

The number of healthcare workers infected with the virus has risen to 1,336, including 507 nurses and 493 doctors.

Other affected professionals include nursing assistants, medical technologists, radiologic technologists, respiratory therapists, midwives, dentists, barangay health workers, and administrative aides.

The DOH expressed condolences to the families of those who died and highlighted the risks faced by healthcare workers on the frontlines.

On Monday, April 27, the DOH reported 198 new cases and 70 recoveries, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 7,777 with a death toll of 511.

The WHO had previously expressed concern over the high infection rate among healthcare workers in the Philippines.
