Converge beats Rain or Shine 130-118 in PBA quarterfinals

The Converge FiberXers secured a decisive victory over the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters with a score of 130-118 in Game 1 of their PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Justin Arana, who returned from a knee injury, contributed significantly with 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Cheick Diallo led the team with 35 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks, and three assists.

Despite Rain or Shine's import Deon Thompson fouling out early in the third quarter, Converge capitalized on their Filipino players to extend their lead by as much as 17 points.

Converge head coach Franco Atienza acknowledged that Thompson’s absence was significant but noted that his team still needs to improve for Game 2.

Key contributors included Jordan Heading with 21 points and nine assists, Schonny Winston adding 17 points and four rebounds, Justine Baltazar scoring 13 points, and Alec Stockton contributing a double-double of 13 points and ten assists.

Atienza emphasized the need to be more resilient against Rain or Shine's firepower and make them feel their defense in Game 2 on Friday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
