Comelec likely to extend voter registration period

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is likely to extend the voter registration period beyond September 30, following public and lawmaker pressure.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the en banc would meet on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

Marcos and Matugas, lawmakers in constant communication with Comelec, stated that an extension until October 31 is expected.

Jimenez previously indicated a one-month extension was possible but a 'granular extension' would be difficult.

Comelec expects less than 200,000 additional registrants if the deadline is extended.
