Duterte extends ECQ for Cebu until July 15

President Duterte extended the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) for Cebu City until July 15 due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Cebu City has the highest number of recorded cases among urban areas in the country with 6,175 total cases as of July 1, of which 3,440 are active.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año expressed optimism that current measures will contain the virus spread and allow for easing restrictions by mid-July.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella cited illegal settlements, social distancing challenges, and delays in releasing test results as factors contributing to the spike in cases.

The President also criticized residents of Talisay City for non-compliance with health protocols.
