DoJ receives death certificates of 21 Bilibid inmates who died from COVID-19

The Department of Justice (DoJ) has received death certificates from prison officials for 21 inmates who died of COVID-19 at the Bureau of Corrections.

Nine of these deceased were convicted drug traffickers, prompting an investigation by government agents into the lack of transparency surrounding their deaths.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete stated that the DoJ will hand over these documents along with swab test results and other evidence to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for further examination.
