PBA records first four-point shot in history

Chris Banchero made history by scoring the first four-point shot in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) history during Meralco Bolts' season-opening game against Magnolia Hotshots on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Banchero's historic shot, which occurred off a kick-out pass from Allen Durham and contributed to Meralco's victory over Magnolia with a score of 99-94, was made from beyond the newly introduced 27-foot arc at the 10:26 mark of the second quarter.

Jolo Mendoza later became the second player to hit an official four-point shot in the league during the same game, while Magnolia's Paul Lee also scored a four-pointer early into the final period.

Banchero acknowledged that adjusting to the new rule will take time and noted it could significantly impact the game, as a missed potential game-winning four-pointer by Glenn Robinson III in the final seconds demonstrated.

League officials remain optimistic about the new rule's influence on gameplay and player strategies moving forward.
