Ballungay, Amos lead Ateneo past La Salle

Ateneo de Manila University defeated De La Salle University 77-72 in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Kai Ballungay provided a crucial performance with 18 points and 16 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards that helped Ateneo secure their first win after losing to National University.

Mason Amos contributed significantly in the fourth quarter by scoring eight straight points, including back-to-back triples for a 70-64 lead with 2:07 remaining.

Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin praised Ballungay's performance, comparing it to former standout Ange Kouame.

The Blue Eagles' strong rebounding effort, particularly their 27 offensive rebounds, was key in overcoming La Salle.
