Baguio tests nearly one-tenth of population; facing kit shortage

As of August 4, Baguio City has conducted over 33,970 RT-PCR and Rapid Diagnostic Tests, equivalent to nearly one-tenth of its projected population.

Mayor Magalong highlighted that the city's testing rate is high compared to other cities and regions, but noted that a negative test result only indicates the person's status on the day they were tested.

Baguio is now facing a shortage of testing kits; from an initial procurement of 40,000 kits, the city has only 19,000 left.

As of Tuesday, over 25,000 residents have been randomly swab-tested as part of risk-based mass testing since June, with samples processed at BGHMC's molecular laboratory.
