Tropical Storm Auring Maintains Strength but Expected to Weaken Before Landfall

Tropical Storm Auring maintained its strength over the Philippine Sea but slightly weakened on Saturday afternoon.

PAGASA reported that Auring's maximum sustained winds decreased to 65 km/h from 75 km/h earlier in the day.

Auring is now 'more likely' to weaken into a tropical depression before landfall and may be downgraded to a low pressure area by Monday due to terrain interaction and vertical wind shear.

As of Saturday noon, Auring was moving east at 15 km/h with projected landfall on Caraga's eastern coast expected Sunday afternoon or evening.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted over parts of Davao Oriental, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur due to the northeast monsoon surge.
