Año: Extending lockdown not advisable due to economic impact

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año stated on Wednesday that concentrating the strict quarantine in one area is not feasible due to people moving between regions.

Año emphasized during an interview that implementing a quarantine only in areas with high COVID-19 cases would be unfair and could lead to further spread.

On Monday, Año said extending the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine is not advisable as it would negatively impact the economy.

'The lockdown should not be extended because our economy will suffer,' Año stated on Dobol B sa News TV.

Despite the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, Año remains optimistic that the situation can be resolved within the remaining two weeks if everyone cooperates and follows quarantine protocols.
