Alex Eala loses in French Open main draw debut

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala made her Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2025 French Open on Sunday against Colombia's Emiliana Arango.

Eala, who turns 20 today, lost to World No. 88 Arango in a match that marks her first appearance in the main draw following an early exit from last year’s qualifying round.

Her performance includes defeating three consecutive Grand Slam champions and advancing to the semifinals at the Miami Open before losing to Jessica Pegula, which helped her reach a new career-high ranking of World No. 69.

Eala's clay court season saw mixed results, including an early exit from the Madrid Open and reaching the quarterfinals in doubles with Coco Gauff at the Italian Open.

In women's doubles, Eala and Renata Zarazua advanced to the second round after defeating Emily Appleton and Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers, 7-5, 6-4.
