Alex Eala loses first-round match at Roland Garros, focuses on doubles

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala, who turned 20 last week, made her Grand Slam main draw debut at Roland Garros on Sunday.

Despite losing to Emiliana Arango from Colombia in the first round of singles, Eala expressed optimism and vowed to return stronger for future opportunities.

Eala's opponent Arango defeated her earlier this year in Miami but now they meet again at Roland Garros with higher stakes and a supportive home crowd.

Reflecting on her journey, Eala highlighted the significance of being the first Filipino to achieve such milestones and expressed pride in representing her country.

After absorbing defeat in singles, Eala is shifting focus to doubles where she will be teaming up with Mexico's Renata Zarazúa for their match against United Kingdom's Emily Appleton and Spain's Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers on Tuesday.
